Hippotherapy - a physiotherapeutic treatment, based on the neurophysiology of riding a horse. It is made under the guidance of specially educated physicians, with an instructor and a horse-holder. This method of treatment was approved by the German Physiotherapeutic Association (Deutsche Verband fur Physiotherapie - Zentriverband der Krankengymnasten)

The State Institution of "The Rehabilitation Centre for Hippotherapy" in Samara Region was open in August 2001. It is situated in the ecologically clear district of Samara city in the park-forest zone near the Volga River. This Centre accepts patients (older than the age of 3 years) with different diseases. Within the Individual Programme of Rehabilitation, given by the Office of Medical and Social Expertise, hippotherapy is free-of-charge. For patients with Multiple Sclerosis it is used an individual approach, and is developed the scheme of treatment.
